Willie Hartley Russell is a Partner of Smith & Williamson Investment Management LLP which is wholly controlled by Smith & Williamson Holdings Limited which is a private company. Willie has a wealth of experience in the charity sector.
He joined Smith & Williamson from BlackRock, where he was a senior director on the charities team, and he has also worked at Merrill Lynch Investment Management, Mercury Asset Management and Samuel Montagu. While at BlackRock he was responsible for the Armed Forces Common Investment Fund and the Charifaith Common Investment Fund.
Willie serves as a Trustee of the National Almshouse Association and Chairman of the Donnington Hospital Trust and Jesus Hospital, Bray. In the City he sits on the Board of the National Association of Almshouses Common Investment Fund (M&G) and is a member of the Investment Committee of the Community First (the Community Development Foundation). He is also a member of the Court of the University of Reading. He was appointed a Member of the Royal Victorian Order (MVO) in The Queen’s Birthday Honours in 2011 and was appointed a Deputy Lieutenant for the Royal County of Berkshire in 2016. He is a Freeman of the City of London and a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Pattenmakers.
Willie has a Master in Business Administration (MBA) from Oxford Brookes University. He is an Associate of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (ACSI) and holds the Certified Diploma in Accounting & Finance (CDipAF) from the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants
He is married to Marina and they have 5 sons between them
